Deputy mayor of Jerusalem: ‘Israeli police had shoot to kill policy in wake of 7 October attacks’

“Everyone who threw a stone, everyone who shot fireworks, everyone who threw a molotov cocktail received a bullet here (points to forehead) not in the stomach and not in the leg. And this message was understood very quickly.” Deputy mayor of Jerusalem, Arieh King, said in a TV interview with Israeli Channel 14 that Israeli police had a shoot to kill policy in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem following the 7 October attacks on Israel by Palestinian fighters. Israeli forces killed seven Palestinians over 24 hours in the occupied West Bank as tensions following the 7 October attacks increased. Among those killed was a 13-year-old boy. King explained this policy was the reason Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem were showing “general restraint” despite fears that they would take part in “bloody riots”.
