A solar filament that had been located in the Sun’s southern hemisphere the past several days lifted off beginning at 09:50 UTC (Jan 22, 2024). The event was responsible for an impressive release of plasma in the form of a coronal mass ejection (CME) that so far appears to be heading mostly south of the Sun-Earth line.
