Russia “Arrests Gen Surovikin“, Ukraine Re-Aims At Bakhmut, Why Israel Won’t Arm Kyiv | Russia War

Russian General Sergei Surovikin has been arrested, Moscow Times reported citing two Defence Ministry sources. The Russian Defence Ministry has yet to comment on the alleged arrest of Surovikin, who has not been seen in public since Saturday. According to a source, the arrest of Surovikin was carried out “in the context of Prigozhin“. Russian pro-war military blogger Vladimir Romanov also said that Surovikin was detained on June 25, a day after Wagner’s aborted rebellion. The New York Times reported on June 27 that US officials had intel that Surovikin had prior knowledge about Prigozhin’s mutiny. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the report as “speculation” and “gossip”. A pro-Russian official in the Luhansk region has said that Ukrainian forces are reinforcing their units for an offensive operation in Bakhmut. According to him, the Ukrainian forces have increased their shelling attacks on Bakhmut and Soledar. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said he had rejected calls to arm Kyiv due to “concerns that I don’t think any of the allies of Ukraine have”.
