Bird-dropping Spider (Celaenia excavata)

These spiders are the perfect mimics. During the day they sit with their legs drawn in, looking exactly like a bird dropping, and absolutely refuse to move no matter how much they’re provoked. At night they use a different kind of mimicry, releasing a pheromone normally given off by female moths in order to lure male moths into their web. They’re a fascinating animal, but let’s be honest, they look like shit :-) Filmed in Suburban Melbourne, Australia.
