Earliest Wagon Route from Santa Barbara, California
Before old San Marcos Road carried wagons from Santa Barbara through San Marcos Pass, wagons used an old route--from what is now Goleta City--that was partially cut into stone. This relatively short stone section, called Slippery Rock, still exists, but is very difficult to find, and has no markers, signs, or paths. As “adventure hobbiests,“ it took Chris Andrews and myself (Greg Feet) some years of casual thought to finally make the effort and find it. I’m glad that we did.
