“Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure“ raw video from Panic Playdate website

This video is not mine. This was taken from one of the interactive front-page demos on by inspecting the HTML element it resides in, upscaled to 1080p in case YouTube would’ve put artifacts on the original 240p video. --- PLAYDATE INFORMATION --- This is a new handheld game console announced by the popular Mac app developer and game publisher Panic Inc. on May 22nd, 2019 via issue 333 of the EDGE magazine, and released on April 18th, 2022. This handheld takes in a combination of a retro feel (with its minimalist 1-bit screen and limited buttons) and an industrial design by Teenage Engineering (who came up with the device’s signature analog crank). It has a “Season“ of games which are delivered in couples every week to surprise players. The first consumer hands-on events took place at the 2019 Game Devs of Color Expo and PAX West. Since then, it’s been followed up by a few updates, a stream on Twitch from Panic about the basics of Playdate game development, and a premiered video update which revealed many details, such as the names and menu banners of most of the Season 1 games, and a couple of accessories for the device. The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the launch significantly from the anticipated 2020 launch, so the system had a fair amount of time to get some upgrades on the way, such as having the Season 1 lineup and internal storage doubled, at the cost of having a higher price than anticipated. Pre-orders opened on July 29th, 2021, selling out the initial batch of 20,000 units in less than 20 minutes. The units had a fatal battery flaw which was eventually resolved, and the system finally launched in 2022. --- GAME INFORMATION --- “Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure“ is one of 24 games included in the Season 1 lineup. Its lead developer is Keita Takahashi, who also designed “Katamari Damacy“. The only control used by this game is the crank, which controls the flow of time. Crankin needs to get to his sister Crankette on time for her date by avoiding enemies and other obstacles that do not respect the flow of time manipulated by the crank.
