Tips for making a dado/groove in wood using a homemade sanding jig - no power tools needed. - use 2 straight wooden pieces that work as a guide and hold the ruler stopper tight - use a clean and smooth surface to move the marking tool against - use a double-sided soft carpet tape to fix the ruler to the surface and the sanding paper to the ruler - when removing the tape there will be no glue left - use sandpaper with a large grit size to create a sharp groove HOW TO MAKE A RULER MARKING GAUGE | WOODWORKING MARKING TOOLS I started out by cutting 2 rectangles from scrap wood that form the basis for the ruler marking tool. Sanded in a dado (groove) on one piece to fit the ruler in using a homemade sanding jig and sanded a tighter one on the other piece for the acrylic glass that presses against and fixes the ruler in place. I fixed the acrylic glass to the wood piece using epoxy resin. Drilled a hole in, used a threaded insert, and screwed in a wing nut.
