GGD: PV Matt Halpern Signature Pack | Demo

GGD (GetGood Drums) just released their “PV Matt Halpern Signature Pack“ and I picked it up out of curiosity. Ended up accidentally writing this demo song. Oops. This pack is a beast, but it may not be for everyone - Let me give you my thoughts! In this mix, I used the completely raw samples and mixed them myself - I felt like there were too many demos with the turbo function used and some minor master processing, so I thought I’d give a different perspective. The snare in this library is insane. It will definitely be my go-to snare from now on. In this mix I used the “mid“ tuning on it, compressed to hell and back together with the awesome room samples. The kick is great as well - In this mix, I actually blend both the kicks in this library, with a higher blend of the default kick, with some of the “clickier“ kick blended in. I tried to get a really modern sound out of it, and it takes processing really well, while still sounding organic. Toms are great also - I think maybe I still prefer the Modern & Massive toms, but I maybe just need to spend more time with this library. I miss a second rack tom though, by default - A second rack tom is still included in the pack, and in this mix I use two Kontakt instances to expand the kit a bit. But I dunno, the interval in the tunings between the toms just doesn’t feel 100% right when using both the high and low rack tom and doing fills with it. I think the idea is more that you use either one, and maybe not both of them in tandem. Cymbals - Great, but the drier cymbals isn’t my personal taste - Just personal preference. For whoever likes the sound of these cymbals, they are recorded great. The china is great though, will probably be my go-to china from now on. Really like the stack and splash as well.
