The event, staged at Los An-geles’ historic Wiltern Theater, was part roast and part tribute as the champ was jabbed continuous-ly by such celebrities as Hammer, `Sugar’ Ray Leonard and Dustin Hoffman. The tribute, which will be tele-vised by ABC-TV, was a fundraiser for the United Negro College Fund. Celebrities on hand to help pay tribute to “The Greatest“ in-cluded Diana Ross, Dan Aykroyd, Whitney Houston, Blair Under-wood, Charles Dutton, `Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Ella Fitzgerald, Ken Norton, Archie Moore and Billy Crystal. Ms. Houston opened the show with a stirring, thunderous rendi-tion of her hit The Greatest Love of All, a song based on a film about Ali’s life.
