#IFD Apartment Fire

3:33 AM - 2 Teens injured, 1 seriously, after heavy fire breaks out in apartment at 2447 Beckwith Drive. Occupants tell #IFD firefighters they awoke to heavy fire and smoke inside the apartment and evacuated out the rear door, with the older brother carrying the younger sister to safety. Although it is not clear what actually caused the fire, occupants told IFD that they had been using space heaters and the stove for heat. No working smoke alarms and no adults at home when the fire broke out. Both of the teens were transported by #IEMS to area hospitals, one to Riley and one to Eskenazi. The cause is under investigation. This is the 6th working fire for IFD Firefighters in 48 hours. Working conditions have been brutally cold and firefighters are utilizing all available avenues to ensure safety on scene. Additional units requested for rehab and resources, hydration, salt trucks to assist with frozen walking areas, engine pumps on continuous circulation (pump gear) to prevent freezing and extra sets of dry clothing, gear and gloves carried on apparatus just to name a few. Every tool, ladder, air pack and hoseline along with turnout gear - frozen solid within minutes due to heavy amounts of water to extinguish the fires. IFD Firefighters continue their aggressive efforts to mitigate each and every incident despite the working conditions being way less than optimal. Fire Dispatch reports IFD dispatches also weather related, 6 trash/warming fires (Unhoused population) and 23 Environmental Calls. Environmental includes issues like hypothermia and frostbite.
