Hindutva mobs attack Muslims in Mumbai

Celebrations of a new Hindu temple, built on a contentious site where a centuries-old mosque once stood, turned into large-scale violent attacks by Hindutva groups targeting Muslims and Muslim-owned businesses in Mumbai, India. In 1992, a Hindutva mob destroyed the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, leading to nationwide riots that killed nearly 2,000 people, primarily Muslims. In 2019, India’s top court awarded the disputed land to Hindus, directing the government to establish a trust for the temple’s construction. The new temple was inaugurated on January 22 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
