I’m a victim, Jair Bolsonaro tells crowds amid ‘coup’ inquiry

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former president who faces the threat of a jail sentence, told tens of thousands of supporters at a massive rally in Sao Paulo that he was a victim of political persecution. His supporters filled a main avenue in Brazil’s biggest city, on Sunday to defend him against legal challenges that could put him behind bars. Bolsonaro, 68, is being investigated by federal police over his alleged role in the January 8, 2023, attacks on government buildings by his supporters after his election loss.
