River Pageant (1918-1919)

River Pageant (to celebrate First World War Armistice?). River Thames, London. Shot looking toward Westminster Bridge; which is crowded w/ people. Shot of many Union Jack flags on Houses of Parliament. Several shots of rowing boats coming under bridge and along river. Looks like it could be Doggett’s Coat and Badge Race, as some of the rowers seem to be wearing old-fashioned livery costumes. Large boats go by. Several shots of King George V, Queen Mary, Queen Alexandra and the Prince of Wales (Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor) arriving at a pier or platform on the embankment and milling about the area with lots of naval men. They walk up a ramp. L/S of the Royals watching the pageant from a white porch on the Embankment. Tugboats pass; close shot. Pan left to line of canoes following tug. Pan on crowd on Embankment. A few men walk toward camera; are met by young Prince of Wales, in naval uniform. Scenes in royal box. King talking to some men; Prince puts cape on Queen Alexandra. Boats again.
