Satisfying Trimming — A Thick Vase Turned Thin

I’d be lying if I said I threw each pot to be perfectly light — sometimes they are a touch heavy, and so, I trim them back gleefully with sharp tools until they’re the shape I want and they feel balanced when held in my hands. For removing lots of mass, I use a small blade, pressure dug into the side in one spot that I move downward. I find this easier than drying to use the large expanse of a bigger blade, as more can potentially catch, dragging the vessel off centre, ripping it away. It’s for the reason that as I trim, I often keep my left hand cupped around the vessel at some point, ready to catch it at a moment’s notice if the thing does dislodge. #satisfying #pottery #vase #oddlysatisfying #trimming #clay #handmade #artwork #craftsmanship #maker
