Carl Heuser specialised in portraying the inhabitants of the region in local dress; men, often farmers, smoking meerschaum pipes and women in their elaborate formal dress and hair styles, often shown reading. Like the works of Carl Heuser are characterised by the extraordinary eye for detail and portrayal of character.
