Netanyahu teases date for controversial Rafah invasion as Hamas says it can’t return 40 hostages

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday (April 8) that a date has been set for an Israeli invasion of Rafah, Gaza’s last refuge for displaced Palestinians, without disclosing that date. He made his statement as a new round of ceasefire talks was ongoing in Cairo. A Hamas official said on Monday no progress had been made at the Cairo meeting on a ceasefire in the Gaza war after the Egyptian hosts said headway had been achieved on the agenda. Israel and Hamas sent teams to Egypt on Sunday after the arrival on Saturday of CIA Director William Burns, whose presence underlined rising U.S. pressure for a deal that would free Israeli hostages held in Gaza and get aid to Palestinian civilians. Qatari representatives also attended. #israel #rafah #gaza #hamas #palestine The New York Post is your source for breaking news, news about New York, sports, business, entertainment, opinion, real estate, culture, fashion, and more.
