The material here was pretty new to the band, and I should have liked to have enjoyed playing this a bit more. The hybrid (half-acoustic half-electronic) kit was in its infancy back then. Tough to play because the sounds are emanating from different sources, not always under my control. The acoustic part is OK, but the electronics are coming from some speakers that I can’t control. The electronics have a comparatively limited dynamic range in comparison to the acoustics; so the former were always too loud or too quiet. That got better over time.
Never mind the drummer – the performances from Django (keys and tenor horn) and Iain (tenor and soprano saxophone) are worth the price of admission alone.
