’Shameful’: Sir Lindsay Hoyle heckled for breaking precedent with Gaza amendments

Sir Lindsay Hoyle faced cries of “shameful” and “bring back Bercow” as he explained his reasoning for selecting both the Labour and the Government Gaza amendments. The Commons Speaker said: “I can inform the House that there is a precedent for an official opposition spokesperson being called second in the debate and move an amendment before a minister was called to speak in the debate in the circumstances.” Hoyle said Labour’s amendment will be voted on first, followed by the SNP motion and then the Government’s amendment.
