Michal Stahel - Arpeggio in g

Michal Stahe, baroque cello by Anthony Posch, Vienna (ca. 1720), a’ = 392 Hz Here, I was musically inspired by an Italian early Baroque Lamento that occurs with Giacomo Finetti – in the motet ‘O Maria, quae rapis’ – and is performed by two higher parts. The Lamento describes the mood in the first stanza of the poem. With the aid of pizzicato in the left hand and the empty C string as a symbol of the heartbeat, I wanted to give a reminder of the beating, feeling and hurting heart. The Lamento ends in a free Preludio freely developing the harmonies into the unexpected. This game could continue into eternity without time and space. It is intended to describe the second part of the stanza and the way to heaven. At one spot, I managed to make the portions mixing in space sound reminiscent of a ringing bell.
