Mambo Na’ Má is the first, killer lead track from Daymé Arocena’s second album Cubafonía. Featuring big, showstopping vocals and a heavy-duty horn section, it’s dancefloor-minded music with Daymé’s name stamped firmly on it. Combining Cuban mambo with New Orleans second line, it’s a rhythmic powerhouse bearing a bright, musical sensibility.
It was during a trip to New Orleans that Daymé first experienced the second line tradition, seeing big jazz band processions followed by a second line of dancers and singers from the local community. It was there she noticed the similarities with the ‘50s mambo sound forged by fellow Cuban Pérez Prado.
