This precious biome, home to 5% of the world’s plant and animal species, is disappearing twice as fast as its neighbor, the Amazon. Why? The expansion of soy grown as animal feed. US commodities giant @ proudtobebunge is one of the major players contributing to the Cerrado’s destruction. A Mighty Earth investigation found that Bunge recently bought soy from three farms responsible for the equivalent of 15,897 soccer pitches of deforestation in the Cerrado, cleared after 2021. Bunge ships vast amounts of soy to Europe to feed animals in intensive farming systems, destined for the meat and dairy aisles of major supermarkets in France, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. @ standmighty is calling for greater legal protection for the Cerrado and for the new European Deforestation Regulation to be expanded to include Brazil’s most threatened biome (link in bio!) We need the Cerrado as much as the Amazon to tackle climate change. Time for “Bad Boy Bunge” to clean up its act and end deforestation in its supply chain. Watch and share this video. # SaveTheCerrado #bunge
