Ever since the initial release of the demo, befriend had always been one of my favourite eliminations. After a while, though, I started to notice certain aspects that I disliked or felt was lack-luster.
To know the specific changes and my thought process behind them, you can read below.
-Too Many Events
I feel as though Osana has far too many events on Monday. After around 7:30am, it’s almost impossible to eliminate Osana, since she is in an event. This isn’t an issue with Amai’s test week. And so, I would like to limit the amount of scripted events Osana has during school hours. I removed the rooftop event with Raibaru and went with an event that happens in the town (time doesn’t pass in the town and violence is prohibited). Events happening outside the school, where violence isn’t allowed, means the player no longer has to plan their murders around Osana’s events at school.
-Storyline
I really liked the storyline for Osana’s befriend elimination, yet, found it was a little lack-luster. It is never specified how or why the Stalker is infatuated with Osana and the relationship Osana has with her cat is never explained. And so, I added more depth to the idea of “Magical Girl Pretty Miyuki“. In the Yandere Simulator, the anime franchise is the next big trend. Everyone has heard of it, and everyone is talking about it. This would help explain just how much Miyuki content is present in the game and even around the school.
-Stalker
One of my problems with the in-game was Stalker was that he seemed to be created just to be disliked. To me, that didn’t feel like a good character. And so, I changed mine into a High School Student. He is still overly, obsessed with Miyuki and is still a pervert, but he has friends, he leaves the house, and he acts on his threats. I wanted him to feel like he is still a big danger to Osana, yet still feel like a human who can acknowledge his actions and change.
-Stealth Mission
This is probably the least changed thing, since I actually liked how it was in game a lot. The first change I made was the opening cutscene. If you have never saw the stealth mission before, there is no real way to know how to enter the house (unless you use your common knowledge and go straight to the front door). To fix this, during the opening cutscene, you will see the stalker’s sister turn on her bedroom light. This hints that the player should check who it is and enter through there. The other change is that crouching effects the gameplay. When Ayano crouches, her footsteps are silenced. When she stands up or runs, her footsteps will be heard. This would alert any family members in ear-shot, and so Ayano would have to crouch past them, as to avoid being heard (perhaps each family member would gradually get harder. Perhaps sneaking past the mother would result, in moving around the kitchen whilst she is making noise. Once she stops, the player would have to stop to, in order to not be heard). Now the final major change is an “introduction to the stalker’s obsession“. When entering the Stalker’s bedroom, a cutscene will now play. This cutscene allows the player to hear about the stalker’s thoughts towards Osana and allows the player to see just how crazy his obsession with Miyuki is and why he needs to be stopped. This cutscene also shows the player where the cat is located and so, where they should be heading. I also added sound effects to just about everything, since the game really lacks sound design.
-Gameplay
The gameplay for the befriend mission, is pretty bare bones, it’s a lot of “have a conversation“, “listen to a conversation“ until you finally get to the stealth mission. I wanted to add some sort of gameplay part and that came in with the investigation quests in the town. Whilst this is still “listen to a conversation“, this is much more interactive and allows the player to really feel the type of world they are playing in. These characters have lives, emotions outside of normal gameplay. The idea of another school existing in the universe helps build up the world even more and this also allows old characters who were removed, to be added back in the game and have a reason to be there. The other thing is that the Befriend request can be completed on the first day of school. I really dislike this, and so my version takes place over three days. Considering this is the first week, this would leave the player with two extra days at school to explore and make friends.
With that said, I hope you enjoyed this. It took a lot of work, but I’m super happy with the results and I hope you are too.
