SCO Summit adopts Astana Declaration; Putin thanks members for the proposals for peace settlement

The 24th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on July 4 adopted the Astana Declaration and approved 25 strategic documents covering energy, security, trade, finance, and information security. The SCO members reaffirm their commitment to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind. They oppose confrontation mindset and stand against the attempt to settle international and regional issues with that approach.   Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday expressed gratitude to members of the SCO for their proposals on resolving the conflict in Ukraine at the meeting. Elsewhere in his remarks, Putin said that Russia places great importance on partnership and cooperation within the SCO. During his speech at the plenary session, Putin also reminded his colleagues of Russia’s offer to create its own payment and settlement mechanism in the SCO. The SCO was founded on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai. Initially, it consisted of six countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. In 2017, India and Pakistan joined the bloc, followed by Iran in 2023, and Belarus on Thursday became the SCO’s 10th full member state. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
