RAAS is a violin-guitar duo that wants to surprise you: A classical duo with a loose screw! The diversity in the RAAS music scenery is quite simply staggering: you may find classical and contemporary musical works, music from Spain, Latin America and the Balkan region, and tango. Through improvisation and making their own musical arrangements, they give a twist to existing music. Currently based in Belgium and the Netherlands, violinist Ruth Mareen and guitarist Marie-Lou Debels met in 2016 in the first year of their studies in Leuven and are now finishing their masters in The Hague. From their first performances a strong connection with themselves and the audience, a shared passion for chamber music and an infectious enthusiasm is key. They prefer the more intimate venues and play a big part of their repertoire without sheet music.
