Hitler’s Indian SS Division

Throughout World War 2, there were many people who were considered traitors who defected to the Nazi cause. But there was a group of Indian soldiers who defected to fight alongside the Wehrmacht and the Germans with the promise of liberating India from the British. These defectors became known as ’The Free India Legion,’ and they would serve alongside German soldiers throughout many different campaigns. They were even tasked with hunting down the French Resistance following D-Day. But then the Indian soldiers were transferred to become part of the Waffen-SS, which was headed up by Heinrich Himmler. The SS would during the Second World War become known for war crimes and the concentration camps, but the Indian soldiers were being led now by Heinrich Himmler. Many believed the Germans would help them back home, but this was never the case.
