Pandit Santosh Banerjee - Raga Kaunsi Kanhara | Alaap, Jor, Jhalla

My knowledge of of shaastriya sangeet is akin to a speck of nothingness in the endless abyss of ragas, but I feel this is perhaps the greatest recorded rendition of Raga Kaunsi Kanhara. ************ Pandit Santosh Banerjee is one of the few surviving masters of the Kandahar Vani style of Dhrupad. A student of Muhammed Dabir Khan of the Rampur-Senia gharana, he is one the most accomplished players of the Surbahar of our time. Apart from having been a performing artist who has toured several countries of Europe, Panditji also retired as the Head of the Department at the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Professor Santosh Banerjee, as is his academic title is also known to be one of the finest teachers of the Sitar and Surbahar and students flock to his residence in Kolkata from the world over to receive his talim. The octogenarian currently resides in Calcutta. He is married to Chobbi Banerjee, daughter of Sangeetacharya Kashinath Chattopadhyay of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana and his daughter, Sahana Banerjee is also an accomplished Sitar player who performs regularly in India.
