Hanbojutsu: Kote shime, basis wrist lock of Kukishin ryu stick fighting

This is a basic form to train quick hand and wrist catches from opponent’s grip. This fundamental stick fighting technique can (and will) be used for weapon retention, osae waza and more. This is a basic exercise and should be trained as such. Begin in katayaburi no kamae. The uke will step forward and secure the tori’s left lapel with their right hand. Tori will release their right hand from gripping the weapon and roll the weapon in a counter-clockwise direction over the uke’s wrist. Tori will pass their right hand under the uke’s gripping arm and re-secure their weapon with both palms facing inward. The left arm will be in front of the right. Once the tori has achieved compliance from the uke by locking the wrist against their chest and downward, tori will drop straight down onto the right knee. It is important to not step back when doing this movement, rather straight down. I hope you enjoyed this video - Adam My Dojo: Solo Training?
