Alex Rudinger - Whitechapel - “THE SAW IS THE LAW“

As mentioned in my last W.C. playthrough video description - I thought I was done with / had already posted all #Whitechapel playthrough’s, but stumbled across a few more! I absolutely completely forgot that I even filmed this one (& the last one, which I’ll post sometime in the next couple weeks, too). This must’ve been around... 2017/2018, I think? I think I forgot about it b/c, technically, I wasn’t playing with them yet. When I first started talking to them about coming on board as their live drummer, they asked me to record a video of a new / unreleased song from their upcoming album (which, at the time, was ’The Valley’). They sent me ’When A Demon Defiles A Witch“ - my YouTube video for which was filmed the same week as this one. They already knew that I could play a lot of their material, as I’d done covers before, & played in other bands with similar drumming styles. But I think they just wanted to see something newer. Oh &, for the record: This was all way, waaaay before there was any talk of me becoming a full-time member. That was much later, & obviously didn’t work out. Lol. Initially though, I was brought on strictly as a hired-gun. At ANY rate - me being me, & wanting to show them how serious I was about wanting the gig, I decided to take a bit more initiative & record 3 or 4 additional songs from older albums (in addition to the newer one, “.“, they’d sent me), & then send them ALL to them at once. & THIS cover, “The Saw Is The Law“, was one of those videos! Flash forward a bit, & I’m actually playing with them now. We decided to post up the . video, simply b/c it was a much newer song, & this one for Saw (along with one other) kinda fell by the wayside, & I forgot about them completely. That is, until I stumbled upon it again a month-or-so back! Honestly - I absolutely loved playing this live... I mean, I’m not originally from the deep south (LOL), but idk... I felt a lot of pride to be playing with W.C., & felt good about representing them. This being one of their (if not THE) biggest songs, & being kind of a nod to where they’re from, it always made me proud to play it. Plus, it’s a banger 😂🤘🏼. I miss a lot of aspects about playing with W.C. - stumbling across this video reminded me of that. But hey, that’s life sometimes! Still thankful for the good experiences & times I had with em’! So, with THAT, I hope you enjoy it! Oh &, last thing / funny side note: It was also weird for me to watch this again when I found it b/c when I actually started playing live with them, I ended up changing how I played certain parts for this song (kinda just happened naturally over time). So to see it played this way - the way I originally learned it, which was very close to the original / album version - was kinda cool. Alrighty... KIT SPECS ! Let’s see if I can remember everything I used for this... #Tama Starclassic B/B 10x7 12x8 14x12 16x14 20x16 14x7 John Tempesta Signature #Meinl Cymbals (from left to right, if sitting behind the kit) 18“ Pure Alloy China 18“ Byzance Brilliant Medium Crash 14“ Byzance Traditional Medium Hi-Hats 10“ Byzance Brilliant Splash 10“ MB20 Rock Splash 13“ Byzance Brilliant Medium Hi-Hats 19“ Byzance Brilliant Medium / Thin Crash 20“ MB20 Heavy Bell Ride 18“ Pure Alloy China 16“/13“ Stack (which, if memory serves, was made up of a 16“ Classics Custom Trash Crash on top, & the bottom part of a 13“ Byzance Traditional Medium Hi-Hat on the bottom) #EVANS Drumheads Toms - Clear EC2’s (batter), Clear G1’s (reso) Snare - Coated ST (batter)...(I think!), Snare Side 300 (reso) Kick - Coated UV2-EQ4 (batter), not sure what I had on the reso... Lol! & clearly, I was still playing my Trick Peadls back then! & the mix was actually done by Anup Sastry (thx good buddy! 🤍). This was also before I got any album stems from the band, so the backing audio is actually just a filtered / EQ’ed version of the album file, that I then slip-edited a bit here & there so it wouldn’t flam with my performance. My Socials - @rudirudinger Annnnd by Podcast (altho, I still haven’t done a new episode in awhile... not sure what I’ll do with it, but we’ll see - !): Spotify: Apple Podcasts: & last but CERTAINLY not least, BIG love to everyone that contributes to my PATREON!
