Filmmaker Fox Maxy, a winner of the 2024 CHANEL Next Prize

The 2024 CHANEL Next Prize winner Fox Maxy (born and based in San Diego, US) is a visual artist and film director. Maxy is from the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians and she is Payómkawish. Her first feature length film, Gush, is a collage of audio-visual material gathered by Maxy over a decade. Gush premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. Maxy’s work has been screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Toronto International Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the imagineNATIVE Film Festival, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the BlackStar Film Festival and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York among others. Maxy is currently working on her second feature film, titled $hy Heart.
