Taeko Ohnuki - Tokai // bass playalong w/tabs (1977 - Japanese city pop)
standard tuning
//
i really wanted to do another song from Taeko Ohnuki’s (大貫妙子) 1977 album “Sunshower,“ and this one, “Tokai“ (都会) has an absolute gem of a bassline, courtesy once more of the great Haruomi Hosono (細野晴臣). i’m really blown away by how good and how intricate Hosono’s basslines are, especially for someone that isn’t primarily known for their bass playing! this one is full of almost-the-same-but-not-quite-the-same licks and rhythms that can really throw you off, but that make for an extremely satisfying line to play. to be honest, it also makes for a fantastic (and very tricky) reading/solfege exercise -- i did my best to follow along but as always, it’s not a perfect rendition!
happy bassin’, hope you enjoy!
