1 Kings 17:1 (NIV): “Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, ’As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.’“ 1 Kings 18:36-39 (NIV): “At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: ’Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.’ Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, ’The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!’“ 1 Kings 19:11-13 (NIV): “The Lord said, ’Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, ’What are you doing here, Elijah?’“ 2 Kings 2:11 (NIV): “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.“ Malachi 4:5-6 (NIV): “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.“
