When a garment is embroidered, it’s most common for the intricate work to be done first. A length of fabric is stretched on a frame and embroidered in the shape of the garment pattern pieces. When complete, the embroidered fabric is cut out and made into the garment. The Peacock Dress is no exception. So I have to send fabric, gold threads, and beetle wings to India, along with a trace of the pattern for the skirt and bodice. Now, the skirt pattern is a lot simpler than the bodice pattern I created last month... but it took a lot of detective work to get there. What WAS the pattern for that skirt?
