Blue Origin nailed landing... The triumphant return heralds the king’s ascent to the throne once more! Just a day after being transported to its Starbase orbital launch site, SpaceX utilized its giant robotic arms to lift the massive Booster 10 onto the Orbital Launch Mount yesterday. While Musk says that the ultimate goal is to use those arms to catch Starship and Super Heavy out of mid-air, their current purpose is to take the place of the tall and unwieldy crane that would otherwise need to be used to lift either stage. The arms are an extremely complex solution but they do allow SpaceX to lift, install, and remove Starship stages remotely and insulate those processes from wind conditions, which cranes are sensitive to. This is the first time a booster has been joined together with the launch pad since the November 18 Integrated Flight Test of Starship. Although that historic launch succeeded in keeping the Starbase launch pad intact, SpaceX has been still busy around the clock with small repairs and upgrades to the launch mount. The company is still in the process of repairing this structure but has clearly made enough progress to begin testing Booster 10 ahead of its flight test in the coming month. Indeed, when the crew attempted to lower B10, they encountered some scaffolding blocking the way, resulting in a slowdown of the process. However, it provided us with a great opportunity to examine these Raptor Booties up close.
