A Sharp-shinned Hawk viciously attacking a Pigeon. The Pigeon was still alive but barely hanging on... occasionally it would try to escape the Sharp-shinned Hawk’s grip; that’s why I attempted to interrupt them with a “Psssstt“. In fact, “sharp-shins“ or “sharpies“ (as they are sometimes casually called) are the smallest to reside in USA and Canada, though some Neotropical species are smaller (notably the aptly named Tiny Hawk).
