Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Pioneering Los Angeles,California based rockers L7 began in the mid 1980’s while metal was in it’s heyday, L7 were a true crossover band starting as metal band and going later in a more grunge, punk style as the grunge movement became popular by the early 1990’s. L7 debuted their self titled album in 1988 however an all female line up would be secured after the recording when drummer Demetra “Dee“ Plakas would join. L7 were brash, un- polished and anti glam and they gained a huge following for it, political and feminist they inspired numerous women to rock and proved they could more than hold their own in the male dominated boys club of hard rock and metal, they released six studio albums and one live album along with numerous achievements from television and movie appearances, by 1998 Jennifer Finch left the band and was replaced shortly by Gail Greenwood and Janis Tanaka but the writing seemed to be already on the wall before their final release “Slap Happy“ was released and by 2001 the band was on a hiatus. By 2014 L7 was reunited with the original lineup and have been playing and touring since giving their legions of fans and new fans the chance to relive why L7 dominated the 1990’s.
