Big Thief performing at Way Out West in Gothenburg, Sweden. This video is taken from the TV4 broadcast of the concert. I was in attendance for both the previous night at Pustervik and this Way Out West performance, and even though the WOW performance was shorter I preferred it to the previous concert. Not only did we get great versions of Contact and Flower of Blood on this night, but the new songs felt even more confident and fleshed out than at Pustervik (maybe with the exception of All Night All Day, which was restarted due to guitar issues). The older songs were also excellently performed (with the exception of a slightly goofy version of Simulation Swarm), and both Not and Dragon, which were perhaps the biggest highlights of the Pustervik show, sounded even better at the festival. However, all these positives pale in comparison to this version of Incomprehensible, which stands as perhaps the highlight of the entire festival for me. When Adrianne has gone through the song’s excellent two verses, she doesn’t stop the song as expected. Instead she removes her guitar, walks closer to the audience and repeats both verses, with added emphasis and even more emotion. This performance is incredible, and feels like a once in a lifetime experience unlikely to be repeated. Thanks for reading my yap session, and enjoy the show!
