Clarion Boats of Muskoka is owned and operated by Paul Crammond. Paul has decades of personal history in Muskoka, as a cottager on Lake Rosseau with his family since 1971. During those formative years, Paul was constantly exposed to life on the water and the boating world of Muskoka, a culture and history that fascinated him. Paul went on to own antique wooden boats in his adult years and at various times has owned companies importing boats into Muskoka, and building to order classic-look fibreglass boats trimmed in mahogany.
Working in a design and construction consulting capacity with Paul is the original founder of Clarion Boats, Dwight Boyd. With his wife, Kerstin, Dwight began Clarion Boats in the mid-1980s. After restoring award-winning antique boats such as Ditchburns and Greavettes, Dwight expanded his efforts to include the building of new wooden boats and established a dedicated clientele of enthusiasts across the continent.
2019 marked an exciting new chapter for Clarion Boats.
Dwight Boyd semi-retired and sold the Clarion Boats name, intellectual property and designs to Paul Crammond. Dwight remains very much involved with Clarions’ future as a design and construction consultant. His experience and knowledge are invaluable.
All wooden boat models sold by Clarion Boats of Muskoka are the design work of Midland marine designer, Steve Killing. Steve has twice designed for the Canadian team in the America’s Cup sailing competition, and was a designer on the renowned Canada One yacht that competed in the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup.
This team of Dwight Boyd, Paul Brackley, Steve Killing, and Paul Crammond represents decades of expertise in the Canadian wooden boating realm. They are committed to designing and constructing the finest, most enjoyable modern mahogany boats in North America.
