Carnage Claré kayaking (swimming through a syphon on the river)

This happened on the first years of kayaking. I was young and inexperienced. Until this day kayaking was just fun and pleasure. The river was not challenging. Some of our group knew it from some years ago. However there was a big flood some weeks ago that generated a huge syphon. From our perspective it just looked like a wall, the water goes around. The boulders in front set up some curlers that confirmed our point of view. In the last second we realised that´s not right. 3 of 5 kayakers saw it some seconds before and could make it almost around the entry of the syphon but got pushed on the left side of the wall. 2 of us got flushed through. Me included. When my kayak got eaten, I pushed myself out of it and started searching for the rock above me. Luckily I could find it pretty quick and start pulling me downstream. The other guy made it out a couple sconds later. Happily nothing bad happened. It was a terrifying experience in my life that luckily never happened again (and hopefully will never happen again). I learned a lot from that. I got smarter, more attentive and mindful on the river. Try not to be as stupid as I was. Keep your eyes on your partners, never paddle alone, stay focused and safe out there.
