Elena Shushunova gymnastics video montage. Elena or Yelena Shushunova was born in Leningrad in 1969. She was a powerful gymnast who rose to fame thanks to her daring skills that were ahead of her time. Though she was age elligible to compete at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, her country’s boycot denied her the chance but a year later she became gymnastics world champion together with her compatriot Oksana Omelianchik. In 1988 she finally got a chance to compete at an Olympic Games in Seoul 1988 where her battle with Romanian gymnast Daniela Silivas was the highlight of the competition. She became the AA champion and she scored perfect 10s.
