Unboxing The Old World; The First Photographs of Egypt, Africa (1850-1870) by Francis Frith

Howdy ya’ll. Today we will look at over one hundred highly detailed images of Egypt, with a handful of images of other, more southern parts of Africa, dated to the years 1850 through 1870. These photographs come from the collections of Francis Frith, one of the most decorated photographers of the 19th century. Frith accumulated over 330,000 unique negatives in his lifetime, with his most prestigious images coming from his travels abroad. In today’s collection we will see numerous outstanding monuments of Egypt photographed for the first time in history. We will also discover a few Old World Stereoscopic images, as well as a few images seemingly taken from Balloon or Dirigible. Overall, this is one of the most complete, one of the most detailed, one of the most sought after collections of Old World images I have ever come across.
