Alanas Chosnau & Mark Reeder Why? (Mark Reeder’s Heartache Mix) Why? Is the first release taken from Life Everywhere, the new album by Alanas and Mark. The video depicts two people on the run. Are they being chased by foreign forces? Or are they running away from a totalitarian society in search of a happier life? Video director Emily Jade Hagan () has created a contemporary but poignant image of people on the run, an image we are all too familiar with these days. Why? begins with a melancholic surge of balalaikas and dulcimers to create an Eastern European feeling, which harks back to the childhood years of Alanas, while he was growing up in the Soviet Union, having fled from war torn Iraq during the military dictatorship of Saddam Hussain. Alanas knows only too well what it is like to be a child refugee, running away to an uncertain future in a foreign land. The shoot was a mini-adventure in itself. We filmed from morning until nightfall amongst the beautiful, wilderness in North Brandenburg. The farmhouse was very rustic, like stepping into another world compared to the metropolis of Berlin. Joined by two actors, Nico Ehrenteit and Salber Williams, our director Emily Jade Hagan captured a cinematic music video reminiscent of Terrence Malick’s works. A vision sensitive and fitting to the emotional depth of the song. Why?
