’To Shiver The Sky’ Available Now Listen Now: ’Daedalus and Icarus’ is a mini-opera. It recounts the ancient Greek myth of Icarus as told by the great Roman poet Ovid in his Metamorphoses. Sung in Latin, it tells the story of how Daedalus, in order to flee the tyranny of King Minos, constructs wings out of feathers and wax for himself and his son Icarus. But when Icarus flies too close to the sun--a metaphor for reaching for forbidden knowledge--the heat melts the was in his wings, and he plummets to the ocean. The concept of reaching for knowledge--and subsequently falling--is a recurring theme throughout ’To Shiver the Sky’; and musical material from ’Daedalus and Icarus’ is reprised in latter movements on the album, whenever mankind’s dream of attaining flight takes a more ominous tone. And the final plaintive notes, sung by Daedalus as he scans the waters for his dead son, carry over to the next movement as the main melodic motif for ’The Fall’. ’Daedalus and Ic
