Earlier, the typhoon devastated the coast of Japan, moving on a strange trajectory, changing the direction of its movement several times. The typhoon left behind destruction, flooding, landslides and storm surges. Heavy rains are falling in South Korea, and powerful, gusty winds are also blowing in the southern regions. Ferry and railway traffic has been suspended, and forced holidays have been announced in some schools and kindergartens due to the impact of the disaster. It is expected that the typhoon will slowly pass through the country, after which it will leave for North Korea, where it is likely to disappear. When “Khanun“ hit Korea, its strength was rated as “powerful“, but gradually it began to predictably lose intensity, declining to the level of “average“. However, since the front of the storm is directly over the territory of South Korea, where more than 51 million people live in a relatively small area, the damage can be large. In this regard, the central and regional authorities are working in an emergency mode. In just 3 hours after the typhoon arrived in Korea, over 320 mm (13 inches) of rain fell in the Changwon, Yangsan, and mountainous regions of Hallasan and Tkhohamsan. At the moment, the typhoon has left the territory of South Korea and, leaving behind a path from the destruction, moved to North Korea. At the same time, the typhoon has significantly weakened and is expected to disappear completely soon. Meanwhile, the area of influence of the typhoon went far beyond its epicenter and affected many neighboring countries. In the Primorsky Territory of Russia, due to the typhoon, it has been pouring rain for several days. Forecasters warn of a dangerous rise in water levels in rivers. The region still faces the threat of flooding of roads, low places in communities, farmland and underpasses. The city of Ussuriysk suffered greatly from the typhoon. And the city itself and its environs literally went under water. Many houses and roads are flooded, bridges are washed away, and the dam is also destroyed. In addition, at the moment, the village of Slavyanka, as well as villages in the Oktyabrsky district, remain flooded. Local residents report that due to bad weather they were left without electricity and there are interruptions in communication. More details about the destruction of the dam and the flooding of the city of Ussuriysk, with a population of over 170,000 people, and its environs, see tomorrow’s video.
