Thousands Risk Arrest With Anti-Putin Chants at Navalny’s Funeral

Thousands risked arrest by chanting ‘Navalny’ and anti-government slogans at the funeral of Alexei Navalny. The open-casket funeral took place in Moscow on Friday. Navalny was one of Russia’s most prominent opposition politicians, and was a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Navalny had been in detention since he was arrested in 2021. The Russian government announced Navalny had died on 16 February while being held in an infamous prison in Russia’s far north. Navalny’s wife Yulia Navalnaya, who resides outside of Russia, was unable to attend his funeral for fear of being arrested herself. Navalnaya claims the Russian state murdered her husband, a claim Russia has strongly denied. Protests in Russia are rare, as protestors are often quickly arrested. But many Russians were apparently willing to take a risk during Navalny’s funeral ceremony. Navalny was buried at the Borisovskoye Cemetery in southern Moscow. Yulia Navalnaya has vowed to continue her husband’s fight against Putin’s government. #russia #ukraine #ukrainewar Subscribe here: TikTok: @ondemandnews Twitter: Facebook: If you wish to purchase any of our clips for commercial use, please visit:
