Field Carrier Landing Practices at NALF Fentress - April 5, 2018

Field Carrier Landing Practices at NALF Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Facility Fentress Chesapeake, Virginia Thursday April 5, 2018 This video covers a small chunk of FCLPs at NALF Fentress in the later part of the afternoon. This was my first ever visit to Fentress, and while I knew you had to get an invite to be able to photograph and film near the LSO shack, I knew it was possible to observe operations from the other side of the runway. Aircraft seen here include F/A-18F Super Hornets from VFA-11 “Red Rippers“ and VFA-211 “Fighting Checkmates“. These pilots practice FCLPs to hone their skills prior to actually landing a Super Hornet on the deck of an aircraft carrier. You’ll also hear the pilots communicate with the Landing Signal Officer known as “Paddles“ as he helps to guide in each aircraft. This will hopefully be the first of many videos that I’ll be filming at Fentress over the coming years!
