French soldiers hold D-Day re-enactment as 80th anniversary nears

French soldiers participated in a re-enactment of the D-day landings on Omaha Beach, as the world prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the operation, when more than 150,000 allied troops landed in France to drive out Nazi Germany’s forces in history’s largest amphibious assault Across Normandy, where beaches and fields still bear the scars of the fighting that erupted on June 6, 1944 and the weeks that followed, preparations were underway for the ceremonies.
