#Howwedoit Meet Big Carl - The world’s biggest crane makes its first move

Introducing Big Carl - the pride of the Sarens fleet and the world’s biggest crane! Here is footage of its first move at the construction site for Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant in the UK, one of the largest construction projects in the world! The crane stands 250m tall, is able to lift 5000T and is unmatched in size or strength by any other land-based crane on the planet. However, it’s not just size that makes this #Crane such an engineering masterpiece. It currently operates on one of the biggest construction sites in the world, moving between 3 strategically located points connected by 6km of rail tracks. It reconfigures from straight to ringed tracks at each point to allow for 360 degree slewing and lifting operations. It’s driven by 12 engines that are grouped into 6 power packs. It utilises some of the most cutting edge heavy lifting tools, such as the Customised Spreader System and Sarspin, that control and equalise lifts. So as you see, this is an enormous crane, but it is so much
