Sain Zahoor is an internationally recognized Pakistani folk singer who has received the BBC World Music Award in 2006. Extensively traveled, he sings and plays the Iktara, a traditional single stringed instrument. He belongs to the ancient tradition of the roving minstrel who moved from one place to another playing the instrument and singing the kalam (poetry) of the sages. This was the most patent manner in which the message of love and tolerance which the Sufis advocated reached the ordinary man.
