I reflect on my own experiences in the second verse, thinking back to my grandmother’s funeral. The service was on a Saturday morning - I’d been out the night before, handling the loss in a less than healthy way. I didn’t wake up in time the next day. The gravity of the situation hadn’t set in until it was too late and I missed my last chance to see her. I was ashamed. In the years since, I’ve made my peace with it. She was the type of person who never let much get to her, a very loving soul who wouldn’t have wanted me to wallow, morphing her memory into a negative that I carry with me. Instead, the way I felt that morning serves as a reminder for me to appreciate those still here. And in a way, that’s sort of beautiful. Almost like she’s still guiding me towards time spent where it matters most. Someday, I think I might like to tell her that I’m sorry. But if I ever get that chance, my Earthly pain would wash away and I think I’d sooner turn to tell her about something else. Like all of the beautiful things that may happen between now and then.“ - Noah Khorey 𝗟𝗬𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗦 I don’t want to make the same mistakes I wish I could go back I’d hang on every moment as time would pass And if someday I can’t reach you, I hope that you’re at peace You deserve your repose from the second you leave As the snow falls down, night hurries faster to lap at your door And as time swallows slowly every piece of you that’s left, I don’t want to take it for granted like I did then It’s been heavy on my mind tonight I’ve been searching for a simpler time I lost my head it’s not the same I wasn’t ready but these things change I’d take the time to take forever Spend the days I’d waste together I don’t want to make the same mistakes I wasn’t ready but these things change I woke up late on that morning and slept through farewell It was a time in my life I didn’t know how I felt If I could say my goodbye someday when I go to my own grave, will you wait for me? It makes me want to believe I held your hand the week before and felt the tender touch We went to sleep together but only I woke up You wouldn’t want me to dwell inside my head The Earth will turn and take away our breath It’s been heavy on my mind tonight I’ve been searching for a simpler time I lost my head it’s not the same I wasn’t ready but these things change I’d take the time to take forever Spend the days I’d waste together I don’t want to make the same mistakes I wasn’t ready but these things change I wasn’t ready but these things change You wouldn’t want me to dwell inside my head The Earth will turn and take away our breath I’ll take the time to earn my own death I missed everything in the years since you left I know you’ll sleep peacefully, you’ve earned no less The Earth will turn and put us both to rest 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗦 - 𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗦 - _________________________________________________
