Archaeological Site 3D Drone Mapping | Nuraghe | Sardinia

We discuss our recent visit to a huge unexcavated archaeological site in the territory of Las Plassas (Sardinia, Italy). We generated a series of aerial maps using a DJI Inspire 1 drone with an X5R camera mounting the standard 15mm lens and with the help of an app called DroneDeploy. The maps suggest the presence of cropmarks, i.e. man-made structures surround the site. I will walk you through the mapping process and also discuss how aerial photography can be a great tool for archaeological surveys. The maps can be downloaded from and reused under CC BY-NC-SA.
